The 156th Civilian Service Rifle Imperial Championships took place at Bisley Short Siberia & Century ranges between the 2nd and 5th July 2025. The competition is the most contested shoot of the year, it is designed to test stamina, positional shooting techniques and accuracy using military adapted service rifles typically in service rifle calibres. The competition has 8 matches spread across 4 days and the scores are then aggregated in classes to award a championship medal winner. Each match has three classifications designed to award based on skill and each match attracts a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal. Other prizes such as shooting mats, drag bags and scopes are awarded for sponsored matches. Matches are as Follows: Wednesday 2nd July, The Imperial Practical Match (Scores here do not aggregate for the Championship, used by many as a shakedown and dope check) Thursday 3rd July, 100, 200, 300yd matches, and the Long Range match (300, 400, 500 & 500 rundown) Friday 4th July, Urban match and the Short Range match Saturday 5th July, The Rural match (100, 200, 300, 400, 500 & 500 rundown)
A great week for shooting in this discipline. Very hot and sticky all week with just the Wednesday giving some quick downpours. Wind was a real challenge this week with average wind speeds of around 7 mph gusting to 15, with wind direction mainly coming from the west but changing. In general, the week is a hard week of competition, it gives the shooter plenty to think about and get right, averages need to be good, consistency is king! As you shoot against the best competitors in your class (Service Optic or Practical Optic) over the week, it challenges the mind and focuses the discipline when on the point. Mistakes and dropping rounds off target invariably cost you a medal. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail! Gallery at the bottom, last few photos in here to give you an idea of the atmosphere and competition. 2 Club members competed this year from the club:- Trevor Eeles Service Optic Class (max x4.5 scope, no bipod, max 4.5lb trigger pull weight) Ady Newberry Practical Optic class (No restriction on scope power, bipod or calibre) Finishing Positions Service Optic Class Trevor Eeles: (Sponsored by MBE Ballistic Solutions) 1018 points, 3rd in Class, Overall position regardless of Class: Equal 3rd.
